Safety

Safety is paramount. While most of the racing activity is with small and light weight craft, there are some risks to be managed by careful and coordinated activities to ensure continued enjoyment for fellow racers. Most racers should agree these are common sense, and as full scale pilots have written checklists used for repetitive activities before and during every flight, so shall we.

Additional checklists may be used at the event, but the following below should give a sense of general racing activity.

All FPV Air Racers WILL:

  • Allow a short tech inspection to determine acceptable build and condition
  • Attend and acknowledge the racer’s briefing and course walk through
  • Perform a short demonstration flight unassisted by GPS or autopilot with successful:
    • Takeoff, hover, one circuit, landing, throttle cut
  • Understand the frequencies they are operating on, ask if unsure
  • Understand the location of the flight line, ask if unsure
  • Understand the location of the pit lane, ask if unsure
  • Only fly the aircraft forward of the flight line
  • Only perform remote piloting behind the flight line
  • Only recover aircraft forward of the flight line when the flight line declared clear
  • Only recover aircraft in the pit lane when announcing to other racers
  • Land if there are any issues with the aircraft or equipment
  • Respect all fellow pilots regardless of knowledge and skill level
  • Respect any specific requests or concerns of the property owner

All FPV Air Racers will NOT:

  • Power on ANY transmission equipment while races are underway, ever
  • Fly behind the flight line and pit lane
  • Recover aircraft forward of the flight line and pit lane while races are underway
  • Continue to fly their craft if there are any issues with the aircraft or equipment
  • Conduct themselves in any reckless or unsafe manner
